I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as President of the Chicago Building Congress for the 2021-2023 fiscal years, and to continue CIBC’s long tradition of supporting the advancement of the industry.
I would like to thank our immediate past president, Rich Schuster of Pepper Construction. As president from 2019-2021, Rich ensured the organization continued to deliver value added content to its members via both in person and electronic platforms, maintained a strong and growing membership and successfully navigated the challenges that arose as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. We are honored to have Rich continue as immediate past president on our Board of Directors.
The Chicago Building Congress has been an enduring contributor to the Chicago built environment since 1939. This has only been made possible due to our outstanding membership and its contributions to the Association over the years. You are the foundation of the Chicago Building Congress and we deeply appreciate your membership and active participation in events and programs.
During my tenure as President I intend to collaborate with the Board of Directors to support the organization in an effort to:
Promote continued advancement of our membership and industry through the development of powerful, relevant programming;
Grow our membership to include expanded participation by a broader group of industry stakeholders;
Encourage and support the development of the next generation of construction professionals through the Future Leaders Committee, service opportunities and networking functions.
Are you new to the Chicago Building Congress or would like to get more involved? Here are some highlights:
The Future Leaders Committee and events provide a platform for networking, service and connection targeting those who have been in the industry from 5-20 years. All are welcome to events.

CBC Discovery Workshops provide highly interactive programs every quarter.
The Merit Award is the premier and prestigious award program recognizing outstanding construction projects each year, and is always looking for volunteer judges to share their expertise and perspective on impactful design and outstanding construction.
The CBC Golf Classic is in June with proceeds benefiting two organizations: ACE Mentor Program and ACE Amandla Charter High School.
Our monthly luncheons feature construction projects, new technology and topics directly affecting membership. If you have ideas about future events and programming, please let me know or you can reach out directly to Evie Caprel or Mark Fitzgerald at the CBC.
Remember to check out our Events Calendar on the website for details and to register for all programs and events that are currently scheduled.
I look forward to serving as your President. Please let me know if I can be of assistance in anyway.
