Applications Open for Inaugural Chicago Building Congress Future Leaders Scholarship
Two $2,500 scholarships will support students pursuing careers in architecture, engineering and construction
CHICAGO — [September 22, 2026] — The Chicago Building Congress (CBC) is now accepting applications for its Future Leaders Scholarship, which supports collegiate and trade students pursuing education and training for careers in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry.
Two recipients will each receive a $2,500 scholarship. The scholarships will be presented at the 2027 Chicago Building Congress Merit Awards. Applications must be submitted by January 10, 2027.
The CBC Future Leaders Scholarship invests in the next generation of professionals who will shape Chicago’s built environment. By helping remove financial barriers to education and expanding access to opportunity, the scholarship supports emerging leaders who will strengthen and advance the city’s construction industry.
“Chicago has long been recognized for its exceptional AEC expertise, delivering projects that set standards for quality, innovation and excellence nationwide,” said Shon Harris, president of the Chicago Building Congress, and Mikel L. Mays, chair of the CBC Future Leaders Committee, in a joint statement. “As our industry faces a growing shortage of experienced workers, investing in the next generation of talent is more important than ever. We hope these scholarships will ease the financial burden on students and apprentices who are committed to building rewarding careers in the AEC field.”
Created by future leaders for future leaders, the scholarship reflects CBC’s commitment to developing a skilled workforce and ensuring that Chicago remains a national leader in construction excellence and innovation.
“We encourage industry partners, community leaders and educators to join us in nurturing the professionals who will sustain and strengthen Chicago’s built environment for years to come,” added FLC Scholarship Sub-Committee Chair, Ray Whearley II of The Walsh Group.
Students interested in applying can review the eligibility requirements and submit an application on the Chicago Building Congress website here.
The scholarship launched with an initial $15,000 fund, made possible by generous contributions from corporate and individual donors as well as proceeds from the CBC Scholarship Fund Golf Classic held each summer. The Future Leaders Committee is also planning an early November event to benefit the scholarship.
